Tabitha Wilson is a contemporary oil painter who works between figuration and abstraction finding a balance between to tap into an emotion response to the memory of a moment, place and feeling. Looking at nature and figures her work focuses on our connection to the natural word. Having studied at Wimbledon College of Art she continues her practice in her London studio.

Throughout her practice Tabitha Wilson unpacks ideas of rest, vulnerability and intimacy. Realised through surreal figurative paintings she explores dreamlike moments of reflections and/or fantasy which involve figures asleep under the protection of a shell. The works seeks to question and investigate the relationship between humans as separate from nature, ideas of home, the importance of rest as a means of resistance and how the imagination acts as a catalyst for change. In her current series Tabitha has been using the iconic image of a shell overlaid with figures asleep; used as a home for other species and surrounded by the otherworldly quality present in the mystique of the ocean, the shell acts as a symbol of transformation/ transportation while offering a literal protective function. While having a critical engagement in concepts of protection, precarity and interdependence, her paintings also have a fun strange playful quality to them.
